Midland Manufacturing, the North American leader in railroad tank car safety valves and equipment and a division of the OPW Fluid Transfer Group, is pleased to announce that it donated a pair of Emergency Response Kits (ERK) for initial use at the Emergency Response Training seminars co-hosted by Union Pacific, The Chlorine Institute and TRANSCAER®. The two-day event was held on Sept. 22 and took place near Chicago. The ERKs will continue to travel the country for similar training seminars.
Midland's ERKs have been designed to facilitate a rapid response to a railcar leak that involves chemicals or other hazardous materials. The ERK components optimize the time needed to cap leaking fittings on the top of pressurized railcars. The components are packaged in a durable, long-lasting carrying case and organized for easy access so every second during a leak incident can be optimized. The kit fits valves from chlorine to LPG, AA, VCM and more, and includes a complete set of industrial-strength tools, such as sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers.
The ERKs were used during the hands-on and classroom activities at the Emergency Response Training seminars. Seminar topics included instruction on the safe handling of chlorine, hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide, as well as overall railroad safety and emergency-response activities. Seminar attendees received certificates of completion.
